Grindal’s Ford – ancient crossroad

Grindal Shoals existed because here a slab of granite,impervious to the tireless work of the Pacolet River, allowed horse and foot traffic.  Cherokee and Catabwa used it for centuries.  Settlers built roads to align with places like this creating centers of trade and communities.  The Continental Army and supporting militia crossed here.  So did the British. – photo October 2011
