There is a different Jeremiah Foster, who died as a young man in 1815,leaving behind wife Patsey, and unnamed children. There was no will; only estate sale papers. In the 1810 census, there were 2 boys under 10 and 2 girls under 10. By the time of the estate sale, there were only 2 children. Patsey Foster, the widow, is living next to John M Foster in the 1820 census. She bought land in 1838. I don’t know how the early Jeremiah is related to the family; maybe a brother to John M, Frederick, Jarod and Thomas.

The wives’ maiden names came from the settlement of the estate of James Pickens, wife Martha, estate settled 1805-1820. John M Foster (signature) paid Frederick Foster, married to Polly Pickens and John Foster married to Jane Pickens cash as their part of the inheritance in 1810-1811. An Administrator Bond in 1814 is submitted by Martha Pickens, widow of James Pickens, along with William Brin or Birn, John Foster, Frederick Foster, and John Foster Jr.

George S Foster was appointed guardian for the minor Mabry children in 1805. Lawrysa of the 1815 sale is listed as Laurese (? Louisa) in 1805. George S Foster is paid his share of the estate, and also for guardianship in 1805. Jeremiah Foster and Thomas White had cash paid as legates. In 1820, George S Foster was guardian for Jemima and Luisa, so they must have still been under 21.

There is an entry that 19 Feb 1820, John M Foster, Thomas & Absolom Humphrey cited in court by John Maples, husband of Jemima Mabry with George S Foster as defendant. John Maples must have been trying to get Jemima her inheritance from her father. I did not see the outcome.

From the will of Martha Pickens, widow of James Pickens, who died in 1839: she leaves to James P Foster, her grandson, “$100 and plantation of land on the Sandy Run for use of my daughter Jane Foster wife of John M Foster,” then the rest to be divided among her daughter’s children:
Delila Hampton, wife of Samuel Hampton
Mary McWhirter, wife of Charles McWhirter,
Thomas Foster, Nancy Foster, William Foster, Henry Foster, Jane Foster, Susan Foster and James P. Foster.

Henry Foster,(1830-1863),the son of John M and Jane Pickens Foster, and grandson of Martha Pickens is buried at Gilead Cemetery, just north of Jonesville in Union Co, SC.
