One of the forts that have protected Charleston Harbour.  This one dates from the Revolution and is the place where Sgt. William Jasper (the brother of James Moseley’s  wife Nancy Anna Jasper) became a national hero.  It was still unfinished when the British fleet began firing on it.  The Palmetto logs used in its construction were still green and it is said the cannonballs just bounced off them.  The victory over the British fleet is why the Pametto tree is on the flag today.

The Fort was also important in the War of 1812 and the World Wars.  It sits across the harbour from Ft. Sumter and is where the first cannon shots of the civil war were fired onto the Federal garrison at Ft. Sumter.
